We're glad you're here! University of Kentucky Opera Theatre is a dynamic, multi-faceted program that attracts some of the nation's top singing talent. One reason is world-class faculty dedicated to teaching and training students to succeed at the highest levels. Another is the opportunity for our students to perform in major productions around the country with opera companies in amazing collaborations.

Just in the past few years, UKOT has collaborated with the San Francisco Merola Program in the World Premiere of Thomas Pasatieri's THE HOTEL CASABLANCA, and in December 2010, UKOT partnered with the DiCapo Opera Theatre of NY to present the World Premiere of Thomas Pasatieri's GOD BLESS US EVERYONE. This performance received rave reviews all across the country, with a review with photos placed on the front page of the Arts section of the New York Times. What an amazing opportunity for our students!

We are also proud to say that UK Opera has made four professional recordings for Albany Records, which you can go to any of the traditional music sites and download or purchase. THE TENDER LAND by Aaron Copland was recorded in the Czech Republic with the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic in 2002, Kirk Trevor, Conducting; THE HOTEL CASABLANCA, by Thomas Pasatieri was recorded in 2008 with the UK Symphony Orchestra, John Nardolillo, Conductor; DIE FLEDERMAUS by Johann Strauss was recorded in 2010 with the UK Symphony Orchestra, John Nardolillo, conducting; and finally, Thomas Pasatieri's GOD BLESS US EVERYONE, was recorded in December 2010 with the UK Symphony Orchestra, John Nardolillo Conducting. Opportunities like these don't happen at all music schools!

Opportunities to participate in master classes and in professional-quality main stage productions with guest directors are other major reasons why students wishing to develop their skills in singing and performance choose UK Opera Theatre.

In February 2009, UKOT students were among the featured performers in "Our Lincoln" at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. (See Our Lincoln: Behind the Scenes)

More recently, singers from UK Opera Theatre wowed the crowd at the Alltech 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games held in Lexington, Kentucky. UK Opera singers performed with Opera superstar Denyce Graves and also with UK's own superstars, Faculty Member and Metropolitan Opera Star Cynthia Lawrence, and Metropolitan Opera Tenor, UK grad and current UK Artist-in-Residence, Gregory Turay. The Opening Ceremonies performance was viewed by over 500 million people worldwide.

Last year UK Opera singers had the pleasure of traveling to England and Ireland to perform in the European Jumping and Dressage Championship Gala Celebration at Windsor Castle. They also had the pleasure of traveling for nine days throughout England and Ireland with boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The tour was sponsored by the Alltech-Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund and the Muhammad Ali Center. (See Photo Gallery)
